Grocery Shopping

I was chatting with someone from the site, who by the way has my head spinning in confusion, which is a hard thing to do to me. But we were talking about relationships, long distance, what we looked for, what we have experienced. It got me thinking of my relationships over the last 13 years. What I refer to as my HD period. Happily Divorced.

Was thinking about not only the women I've dated, but more so in how I met them. There were some from here. Some from the match site. Some I met just meandering around, the beach, out for dinner etc.

Which reminded me of my all time funniest, strangest meet I had. I'm going to call her, hmmm Stacy. Love that name, name of my first childhood love. Anyways, I digress.

I'm out grocery shopping one Friday as usual. It just happens to be Valentines Day. I was without a significant other for the first time, so knew I wasn't going to be spending much money besides the daughters of course. So the grocery store I go to is giant. They have everything, including a nice floral dept. I decided it would be fun to pass out roses. So, I go over to the floral dept and buy 48 long stemmed roses. The lady asks if I want them in a vase or wrapped. I tell her to just lay them in the front of my cart. She looks at me weird, I get that a lot, but she does it anyway.

Now off I go shopping. But every time I see an unaccompanied lady...I pull out a rose, give it to her, say...Happy Valentines day. Walk off and continue shopping. haha This goes on..and I keep shopping. I am giving roses to young ladies that don't know what to think of me. To ladies older than me, that seem ready to cry. To one who I thought was going to hit me, asked me what the hell I thought I was doing, but kept the rose anyway.

Meanwhile I notice a lady who seems to be following me. I notice I have given her a rose. Every time I stop and look at something, she stops. When I look up at her, she turns away real quick. Like she just noticed the Nutella was on sale. I keep on shopping and keep on saying Happy Valentines day. It was a blast. Finally, done shopping and out of roses, I go to check out.

I'm standing there, watching the people like I always do. Out of the corner of my eye I see someone coming towards me. It's my friend the Nutella lady and she's making a bee line for me. I turn to her as she gets to me. She hands me a note, says "I'm really shy, but would you call me", turns around and almost runs out of the store.

I open the note and it said something to the effect of. "Thank you for the rose, that was sweet. I am really shy, (I'd already noticed that part) but really wanted to say something. Here is my number, if you like, you can call me.". So I did. Right there waiting in line. LOL

She doesn't answer, but I leave her a message and tell her I'll call her when I get home. When we did talk, we set up a date. We actually went out for quite a while. Got to be the funniest, and the most unique times I've met someone

So I know all of you have met only on this site. I mean it is tstvdates.com. But have you ever met someone in a funny way. Maybe just unexpected/ different.

Sometimes what we're looking for is all around us and we're just too busy passing out roses to notice.

I was a cop in a small town. The future love of my life was a receptionist at a hotel right across from the beach during spring break. She calls the PO-Leece for a domestic disturbance in the lobby.
When I got there the lobby was crowded and people were yelling. I saw her and we have been together ever since that day.
By the way, the mess in the lobby was caused by this guy and his wife, who was in a crocheted bikini. (Yep. knitted! haha) And she had big tits and a nice butt. Almost nothing was left to the imagination. They had been laying out by the pool. On the other side of the pool was a bunch of drunk college guys. Well, you can probably figure out how everything went south pretty quick! haha
Funny thing is, I was there 20 minutes and do not remember the resolution to the situation. My wife has filled in the details but I have no recollection of anything but her. I was totally amazed with the woman behind the counter that married me a few months later and has been married to me for almost 25 years!

Ok..that was getting to be one of the most clever, thoughtful and in the end romantic meets I've heard of. ..then it has to turn out he's a jerk, and horrible at sex.

I think you can squeak by in life if you are one or the other..but not both.

Before I was married, I met men the traditional way - at work or at the bar.
Since I've been widowed, I've only met men via an online dating site.

But my husband was the only one I met differently ..... a blind date (under protest by me) set up by mutual friends.

What a sweet Valentine thing to do. I would've been one of those women that cried.

hahaha I can see it now.

So, what is it you need today?
I need some headlights.
Great, what's the make and model of your car?
Doesn't matter, just give me the ones on the top shelf, so I can watch you climb the ladder.

Actually that is pretty sweet.

That is one of the best story's I've heard. Nice job and grats to the both of you. Here's to your 25th anniversary. And thanks for doing a job few want to do, but it seems everyone wants to bitch about. That is until they need you.

At least the blind date worked for you. Mine have usually been horrible. haha

I'd give you a rose for Valentines anytime. All ladies deserve a rose now and again.

That was so sweet of you. I wish I were brave enough to do what she did.

most interesting meet I ever had was at an airport in Florida while on vacation with my young son almost 20 years ago. our flight home was delayed, then delayed longer, then cancelled. a man kept walking by checking on the flight. he finally stopped and asked me about the flight, and I was smitten. he invited us to dinner and we talked for a while. then almost missed the re-scheduled flight, all of us put on standby and barely made the flight home. we sat on opposite ends of the plane ride home. this gave me time to ponder meeting this amazing man. once we landed, I handed him my business card and wrote something cheesy like thanks for dinner and great conversation.... it turned into a 10 year long distance love affair until he moved too far away, yet we still keep in touch to this day

Now see, that's what I'm talking about. It's different, unplanned. It just happened. Great story, Thanks for sharing that.

I'm glad you liked it. Funny thing is, I wasn't doing it to try to meet anyone. Just figured I usually spent a couple of hundred bucks on Valentines. Didn't have anyone to spend it on, so figured I'd just be unusual. I like being unusual.

Hahaha, that's a great story. You have to watch us musicians, we just pretend to be deaf from the amplifiers so we can hear what people are saying.

And yes, we do talk to our instruments.

Thanks for sharing that.

My favorite meeting which didn't amount to more than a pen pal was in 1985. It was my first plane trip on Friday the 13th from Newark NJ to Boston on People's Express. I sat next to a cute guy. I was 18 and thought to break the ice. So with my best Dr. Ruth impression I said "Hello, we are in the air!". He looked at me and said pardon me with a British accent. He had not heard of Dr. Ruth. But it got us chatting and the short trip only 45 minutes flew by too quick. He had a little time before his connecting flight to England so we hung out at Logan for a while. We exchanged names and addresses. He was attending Cambridge University and later attended law school. I loved receiving letters from him. We corresponded for a few years. He had a less than unique but noteworthy name... Duncan Hunter. I have other quirky stories. Thank you for making me think about them. LOL. Your Valentine's day rose giveaway sounds right out of a romance novel. Now if I were a recipient of one of these roses I would have to change my narrative of disliking that day with a passion. LOL

While it may not have led to anything more than a friendship, it still created a friendship and a special memory. Both of which are always great things to have.
